International Day of the Midwife 5 May, 2011
5K Walk for Safe Motherhood
Closing Ceremony with Ina May Gaskin

Alki Park, West Seattle - 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Sponsored by the Midwives' Association of Washington State & the Washington State ACNM Affiliate

On May 5th, International Day of the Midwife, midwives and their supporters around the world are walking to celebrate the role of midwives worldwide and to raise awareness of maternal and neonatal mortality. These walks will merge as a global event where midwives around the world will be advocating to improve maternal and newborn health in our communities and countries, as well as for women across the globe.

Here in Seattle, world-famous midwife Ina May Gaskin will lead midwives and families in a 5K walk at Alki Park in West Seattle. Walkers will gather in the open space south of the Alki Bathhouse.

Order a T-Shirt with Nikki McClure's lovely graphic and join us for the walk! Proceeds from donations and T-Shirts benefit the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood and Ina May Gaskin's Safe Motherhood Quilt Project.

Can't make it to the walk? You can pick up your t-shirt at the conference or at Town Hall (or have it shipped). Shirts available in standard, scoop-neck and maternity styles. Some shirts may be on sale at Town Hall, but t-shirts will not be on sale at the walk—they must be ordered and paid for in advance.
